Augustine’s Apples
Meet Your Farmer Blog Series

Getting a chance to connect with the men and women who grow your food is part of what makes eating out of the Abundant Harvest Box a well-rounded experience. Though you might not get the chance to meet them face to face, you can always know exactly who nurtured the food that is feeding your family.

You might have noticed a new name in the produce box farmer line up these past few weeks, Kingsburg farmer Augustine Cardenas. So far this season we’ve seen his Flavorich plums and Granny Smith Apples. Hopefully in a month or two you’ll get to taste some of his favorites, Fujis, that make an appearance in the video below.

“Growing fruit, growing food for people [is the most meaningful part of farming]. When we see the comments that people make, ‘Oh man we love your apples,’ it’s like part of what it takes for someone like us to survive, it’s what  keeps us going.” -Augustine Cardenas

Augustine is a gentle soul, with a bright smile and a humble heart. He was gracious enough to let me follow him around with the video camera during Fuji harvest time last season. It’s easy to get a sense of who he is as he takes us around the orchard in the video. No lie, some of those apples were as big as melons.
